Movement Joint
A Movement Joint or ‘Control Joint’ is an intentional interruption in the tile or stone surface to allow for movement in the wall or floor. Hard flooring expands and contracts due to the cyclic thermal variation. Installing a movement joint prevents the tiles and grout from cracking or de-bonding. Designed to safely absorb any expansion and the contraction of construction materials the Movement Joint absorbs vibrations and allows movement for ground settlement.
Installing Movement Joints in floors allows the tile bed to move in unison with the individual substrates. movement joint type depends on joint width, finished floor use and movement capability. Ideally specified distances across a floor to create individual tile beds are designed so that no single area is greater than 100m2 without movement joints. Movement joints are also incorporated into the design for mitigating aesthetic concerns.
Expansion Joint
An expansion joint, or movement joint, is an assembly designed to hold parts together while safely absorbing temperature-induced expansion and contraction of building materials. They are commonly found between sections of buildings, bridges, sidewalks, railway tracks, piping systems, ships, and other structures. Building faces, concrete slabs expand and contract due to warming and cooling from seasonal variation, or due to seismic effects.
Expansion joint profiles are multifunctional profiles used to cover joint gaps left in buildings, preventing cracking and collapsing of floor, wall, ceiling covering materials and providing comfortable passage at expansion joint points
Bridge Expansion Joints
Bridge expansion joints are designed to allow for continuous traffic between structures while accommodating movement, shrinkage, and temperature variations on reinforced and prestressed concrete, composite, and steel structures.

Cement & Clinker
Cement clinker is a solid material produced in the manufacture of Portland cement as an intermediary product. Clinker occurs as lumps or nodules, usually 3 millimetres (0.12 in) to 25 millimetres (0.98 in) in diameter. It is produced by sintering (fusing together without melting to the point of liquefaction) limestone and aluminosilicate materials such as clay during the cement kiln stage. Clinker, if stored in dry conditions, can be kept for several months without appreciable loss of quality. Because of this, and because it can be easily handled by ordinary mineral handling equipment, clinker is internationally traded in large quantities. Cement manufacturers purchasing clinker usually grind it as an addition to their own clinker at their cement plants. Manufacturers also ship clinker to grinding plants in areas where cement-making raw materials are not available.
